Reminds me of a well know anecdote from here. A local politician was offered a small ornate wooden box, with a few acorns, as a gesture of goodwill by the Japanese counterparts, seeing the acorns are sacred in Japan. The local pollie thought they were peanuts and ate them, one by one in front of the guests. Can you imagine what went through their minds ......
