Built in 1956 by the Derby British Railway works, this was one of two single car units built for the Banbury to Buckingham/Bletchley lines. The Derby "Lightweights" were of a non-standard engine configuration so only lasted in service to the late 1960's before being withdrawn. "Iris" survived by being reallocated to the Derby Rail Research facility, before finally being preserved in the late 1990's. A more standard configuration version of the Lightweights was constructed in 2,3 and 4 car sets which survived in service till the mid-1980's.
